Streaming Glossary

New to streaming? These are the terms you will see during setup, trials, and troubleshooting.

IPTV

Internet Protocol Television. Streaming TV channels over the internet instead of cable or satellite.

Xtream Codes

A login method used by streaming apps. Requires username, password, and server URL. Most common login type for IPTV apps.

M3U

A playlist file format. Some apps use M3U URLs instead of Xtream Codes. Less common but still supported.

VOD

Video on Demand. Movies and series you can watch anytime, not just live TV channels.

EPG

Electronic Program Guide. The TV guide showing what is currently playing on each channel.

Web player

A browser-based streaming player. No app installation needed. Works on any device with a modern browser.

Buffering

When video pauses to load more data. Usually caused by slow internet or WiFi issues.

ISP throttling

When your internet provider slows down streaming traffic. A VPN can bypass this.

Simultaneous connections

How many devices can stream at the same time on one account. More connections = higher plan cost.

Firestick

Amazon Fire TV Stick. A streaming device that plugs into your TV HDMI port.
